Strong Women Brew Strong Beer!

SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAIN BREWING HOSTS ALL WOMEN BREW DAY DURING SAN FRANCISCO BEER WEEK

SANTA CRUZ, CA , 2011- STRONG WOMEN BREW STRONG BEER. For the second year in a row, the women of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing will be hosting an all women brew day on Saturday, February 20, 2011 at the brewery. Beginning at 8am, they will be crushing grain, mashing and sparging, measuring hops and herbs and brewing up a batch of an adapted Belgian style Wit. Nicole Beatie will be doing an Homebrewing demonstration in front of the brewery. They will also offer beer tasting, cheese pairing and answer questions about careers in commercial brewing, brewing practices and homebrewing. Last year they were joined by ten other women but are expecting more this year.

“Brewing can be a little intimidating for women sometimes,” Emily Thomas offers. “We want to demystify it and encourage women to feel comfortable with brewing as a craft. After all, at one point in history beer was predominantly crafted by women.”

The All Women Brew Day is one of many events that will take place during San Francisco Beer Week. There is no charge to attend. The brew day begins at 8am and ends at 5pm but women are encouraged to join for any part of the day. Women should plan to wear work clothes, closed toe shoes, and dress warmly. The Belgian style Wit will be served at the brewery for several weeks following the event.
